Privacy Policy
Updated November 3, 2026
LongJohn doesn’t collect your data. Your audiobooks, library, and listening progress stay on your device, and in your iCloud backup if you use one. We don’t sell data, show ads, track you, or use anything of yours to train AI models.
LongJohn is made by Berceus Labs (“we,” “us,” and “our”). This policy covers the LongJohn iPhone app, this website, and any messages you send us.
What the app keeps on your device
LongJohn has no account and doesn’t send your library, listening history, or files to us. It keeps the following in its private storage on your device:
| What | Why |
|---|---|
| A copy of each audiobook you import | To play it. Your original file stays where it was. |
| Each book’s original filename, file size, and content hash | To list the book and recognize it if you import it again. |
| Your position in each book, whether you’ve finished it, and the book you last played | To pick up where you stopped. |
| Your settings, such as appearance and backup | To remember your choices. |
LongJohn reads authors, chapters, and cover art from your files on your device. It doesn’t ask for access to your location, contacts, photos, microphone, or camera.
What we may receive
Messages you send us
If you email us, we receive what you choose to share, such as your email address, your message, and any attachments.
Information from Apple
Apple collects information under its own privacy policy and may share some of it with us:
- If you test LongJohn through TestFlight, we may see the name and email address used for your invitation, install dates, session counts, crash reports, and any feedback or screenshots you submit.
- If you get LongJohn from the App Store and agree to share analytics with app developers, we may see crash reports and combined usage statistics.
This website
This website has no cookies, analytics, or third-party scripts. Like most websites, its hosting provider may keep standard server logs, such as IP addresses, browser types, and request times.
How we use your information
We use what we receive only to reply to you, support you, fix problems, improve LongJohn, and meet our legal obligations. We don’t use your personal information or files to train, fine-tune, or improve any AI or machine learning model.
Who else can see your information
We don’t sell or share your information for advertising. It can reach others only in these cases:
- iPhone features you use. iOS shows the current chapter title or filename, author, cover, and position on your lock screen and in Control Center, and may pass them to connected devices.
- iCloud Backup. If it’s on, your device backup includes LongJohn’s library and progress, and your audiobooks unless you turn that off. Apple stores these backups, and we can’t access them.
- Service providers. Our email provider processes the messages you send us. Our website host processes visits to this site.
- Legal requests. We may disclose information we hold when the law or an enforceable government request requires it.
International transfers
Our service providers may process your messages and server logs in other countries, including the United States, where data protection laws may differ from those where you live.
Your choices
- Audiobook backup. Turn “Back Up Audiobooks to iCloud” on or off in the app’s About screen. Your library and progress are always included in device backups while iCloud Backup is on for your device.
- Deleting books. Delete a book in the app to remove its audio copy and its library entry from your device.
- Deleting everything. Delete the app to remove all of its data from your device. Earlier iCloud backups may still contain it until they’re replaced or deleted.
- Sharing with developers. Change this in your iPhone’s Privacy & Security settings, under Analytics & Improvements.
Your privacy rights
You can ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, or ask us to correct or delete it. Contact us to make a request. We can’t see or change what’s stored in the app on your device, but you can delete it yourself at any time.
How long we keep information
Data in the app stays on your device until you delete it. We keep messages and information from Apple only as long as we need them for the purposes above or as the law requires.
Security
Your library is kept in the app’s private storage, which iOS separates from other apps. LongJohn doesn’t add its own encryption on top of what iOS provides. No system is completely secure, so we can’t guarantee the security of your information.
Other websites and apps
LongJohn and this website may link to services we don’t control. Their own privacy policies apply when you use them.
Children
LongJohn isn’t directed to children under 16, or a higher age where local law requires it, and we don’t knowingly collect their personal information. If you think a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we’ll delete it.
Changes to this policy
We’ll update this page and the date at the top when this policy changes. If LongJohn starts collecting new information, such as crash reports, we’ll update this policy before that version is released.
